Demonstrators gathered in major cities, including Mexico City, Tijuana, Veracruz, and San Luis Potosí, demanding justice for victims and accountability from authorities.

The site, uncovered on March 5 by the Guerreros Buscadores collective, revealed chilling evidence: clandestine crematoriums, piles of shoes, charred human remains, and personal belongings. The ranch near Teuchitlán was allegedly used as a "training and extermination center" by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

Families searching for Mexico's over 120,000 officially registered missing persons have identified items at the site, deepening the tragedy's personal impact.

Aurora Corona, whose son disappeared last year in Nuevo León, joined the protests in Mexico City. "I came to speak out for my son and all the disappeared," she said tearfully. She hopes the discovery will compel authorities to act decisively. "Hopefully they'll pay attention to us now they see the horrors of the country we live in," she added.

The United Nations Human Rights Office described the discovery as a "deeply disturbing reminder" of organized crime's impact on Mexico. It criticized authorities' failure to detect critical evidence during a previous raid on the site in September 2024. Federal officials have since taken over the investigation, pledging thorough and transparent efforts to identify remains and hold perpetrators accountable.

Despite these promises, frustration with government inaction persists. Juan Carlos Perez, a student protester, expressed his disillusionment: "My first reaction [to the finding] sadly was 'ah look, another one,' but then I realized it could have been me or my family." This sentiment underscores widespread despair over Mexico’s overwhelmed forensic system and rampant cartel violence.

Mexico has seen multiple mass grave discoveries in recent years. In Jalisco alone, clandestine crematoriums and graves have repeatedly surfaced, revealing hundreds of victims.

Activists argue that these horrors reflect systemic failures at all levels of government to address disappearances effectively.
